Hebrew Institute of Boro Park
Hebrew Institute of Boro Park (HIBP, also known as "Yeshivas Etz Chaim"〔alt. spelling "Etz Hayim"〕 was the first Jewish Day School in Boro Park.
==History==
It was the first yeshiva in Boro Park,〔http://www.jewishpress.com/pageroute.do/37718〕 located at 5000 13th Avenue.〔http://www.museumoffamilyhistory.com/erc-syn-brooklyn.htm〕
The school, which was founded in 1916〔http://www.informaworld.com/index/750855066.pdf〕 lasted for about 6 decades.
When it was most successful, it had 3 parallel classes through grade 6 and 2 parallel classes for grades 7 & 8.〔e.g. 47 graduates, two 8th grade classes, 1953: http://www.yibrookline.org/1953.html〕 The loss of a class was partly due to those parents who subsequently sent their sons to (public) Junior High School.
In the mid to late 1960s this was still the situation. The end was relatively rapid, going from approximately 600 students mid 1960s to an estimated 200 students by 1970.
